By Prof. Laghfiri Belqassem & Prof. Khalid Said

The course of Spoken English is designed to enhance the speaking and listening skills of the students. It aims at improving the students’ pronunciation of English words, phrases and sentences, helping them represent sounds by means of phonetic symbols, and guiding them hold fluent and meaningful conversation. To achieve these objectives, an incremental step-by-step approach is to be implemented. In this regard, the course consists of three main sections. The first section is devoted to cover the sounds of English and their main spellings beside the articulation of each sound. The second section emphasizes the pronunciation of sounds in bigger units such as syllables and words; this will improve the students’ knowledge of word stress and sentence stress. The third section is devoted to highlight the link between pronunciation and various aspects of English grammar; it also focuses on pronunciation features which emerge in the context of conversation.
